Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue...finished!!
Despite earlier concerns of game-breaking bugs and wiped PS3 saves, Deathspank: Thongs of Virtue is now complete! In fact, the saved game indicates I completed the game 100%, giving the entire ordeal of 3 replays well worth the time and effort. But why give this game a chance, when so many had decided long ago to abandon the effort in a huff?
While others see frustration in a possibly-broken game, I see a game that has yet to reach its comedic potential through the player. A game's only as good as its audience, and will fail to deliver if the player's not committed to it. And while most games' only satisfaction is the end credits, the Deathspank games are a bit more juicier with humorous dialogue and situations. So I figured it was worth the effort to get a good laugh.
The only problem with the humor is that it's always very straight-forward; you learn quickly that every other dialogue option (other than the obvious one that would progress the story) was put there as comedic filler. It's like its own side quest of sorts, and is something not mandatory - just very time-consuming. It's only saving grace is that it automatically progresses through the dialogue on its own, rather than wait for the user to button-press past each dialogue window - something that many JRPGs could do without.
Despite this, playing any Deathspank game without experiencing the humor would be like playing any other regular game. The only thing left now is The Baconing...
